Fashion Sustainability & Being "Eco"

Sustainable fashion has become a buzzword in recent years as consumers are becoming more conscious of the impact their choices have on the environment. While sustainable fashion has primarily been associated with women's clothing, it's time for men to take notice and become part of the movement towards a more sustainable future. The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world and it's important that we all do our part in reducing its environmental impact.

In this blog, we'll be discussing sustainable fashion for men and eco-friendly packaging options.

Sustainable fashion for men has come a long way in recent years, with a growing number of brands offering clothing made from environmentally friendly materials and produced in a way that reduces waste. Some of the most popular sustainable materials for men's clothing include organic cotton, linen, hemp, and recycled polyester. These materials are grown without the use of harmful chemicals, which helps to reduce the negative impact of the fashion industry on the environment. In fact, branding experts, "weavabel" wrote a great article, which can be found here

Organic cotton is a popular choice for sustainable clothing as it is grown without the use of pesticides and herbicides. This not only helps to reduce the environmental impact but also ensures that the workers who are producing the cotton are not exposed to harmful chemicals. Linen is another popular choice as it is made from flax and is one of the most sustainable crops in the world. It requires very little water to grow and can be produced without the use of pesticides.

Hemp is a versatile material that is used in a range of clothing and accessories. It is a highly sustainable crop as it requires very little water to grow and can be produced without the use of pesticides. Hemp is also biodegradable, which means that it will break down over time and won't contribute to the growing problem of textile waste.

Recycled polyester is another popular material for sustainable clothing as it is made from recycled plastic bottles. This helps to reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills and waterways. The process of making recycled polyester also uses significantly less energy and water compared to traditional polyester production methods.

In addition to choosing sustainable materials, it's also important to consider the production process when shopping for sustainable clothing. Look for brands that are transparent about their production methods and are committed to reducing waste and using environmentally friendly practices. Brands that have a certification such as the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) or the Fair Labor Association (FLA) are a good choice as they are committed to ethical and sustainable production methods. Lure Menswear is committed to their footprint on the planet and we are working towards GOTS standard.

Eco-friendly packaging options

In addition to choosing sustainable clothing, it's also important to consider the packaging that the clothing comes in. A significant amount of waste is generated from packaging, so choosing eco-friendly options can make a big impact. Some of the most popular eco-friendly packaging options include:

  1. Recycled paper packaging: Recycled paper packaging is a great alternative to traditional packaging as it is made from recycled materials and is biodegradable. This means that it will break down over time and won't contribute to the growing problem of packaging waste. 2023 will see Lure Menswear move to cardboard box packaging instead of compostable mailer bags.

  2. Compostable packaging: Compostable packaging is made from materials that will break down into compost, which can be used to fertilize soil. This is a great alternative to traditional packaging as it will break down and won't contribute to the growing problem of packaging waste. Lure Menswear already use compostable individual zipper bags for their underwear. When done, simply add it to your household compost bin or kitchen food waste bin. We currently use compostable mailer bags, however we are moving to paper packaging.

  3. Reusable packaging: Reusable packaging is a great option for those who want to reduce their environmental impact. Reusable packaging can be used multiple times and helps to reduce the amount of waste that is generated from packaging. With our individual zipper bags, these can be used time and time again.

  4. Plant-based packaging: Plant-based packaging is made from renewable resources
